The first and probably the most important is a good Antivirus Program We have Found a really nice FREE

The second program is for when you only have one phone line and don’t want to miss calls when you are online.
This is an internet answering macnine. You can go to CallWave.com and sign up.
They will explain more what the product does.
We have found another program for remote support of your system. RealVNC
The next program will help you to get rid of the adds on websites that you visit.
It even gets rid of the 3 ads that I have on this site. download AdSubtract from AdSubtract.com it will give you sound effects when an ad is shot or a cookie cannon shot. This program must be disabled if you need to have cookies enabled on a particular site. Read the instructions.
This next group of programs is geared at safety and monitoring for children. Just take a look at what they have to say about your childs safety on the net and what you can do about it. Take a look at WebRoot.com They have a program on accelerating your internet connection as well.
Another site with some programs that we have found interesting is AnalogX.com . They have a screen capture program that is really small and does a great job. There are a lot of other neat utilities. I have found this site quite helpful.

History
When we started in 1996 there were no internet providers availabel in Moose Lake. We were charging $10.00 / month for Dues and then you paid for the service you connected to at $24.95 / month totaling 34.95 / month. Then the price of the ISP's went down to $19.95 / month and Internet was available for 29.95/ month.
The other option was to dial the long distance and pay the phone company anywhere from $4.50 to $6.00 / hour plus the ISP charges of 19.95 / month. Several people have called me after they got their phone bill of over $300 for their free 300 hours on AOL A lot of people just gave up on the internet all together until the heard about us.
In late 1998 Lake Country Power and Pine Net both decided that it was time to cash in on this open market and opened up ISP's in Moose Lake with the 485- numbers. This made it a little tuff until April of 1999 and then we found that NetZero had Access in Duluth. We made arrangements and started providing access to their service. We dropped the charge for the club dues to $5.00 / month.
In late 1999 FreeWWWeb was added.
In Late July of 2000 we find that Juno has baught out Freewwweb. They will provide access ofer the same lines as freewwweb but they require having the juno email and you cannot use smtp because they do not have one. In this realization the Free Access of the following were found. Webshare charging $15 per year and a monthly Survey but no advertising bar on top of everything like Juno, Netzero and Altavista. Altavista was the next service that was available. So we had 4 different options for internet provicers for members
NetZero and Altavista and Worldshare. These services were free.
Oct 15 2000
After getting us all spoiled to great service
Worldshare is having to charge for their
services on Oct 20, 2000.
We were then left with Juno Altavista, Netzero and Bluelight. All of these services were still
free and have an advertising bar and you show up their page first when you log in.
Then on December 4 2000
Altavista announced that 1stup.com is going bankrupt and stopping service December 10, 2000. Spinway has also gone bankurpt. Bluelight is purchasing all their assets and equipment. But still not available in this area. The Full story on Altavista.
On January 23, 2001 we started our own ISP service. This is available for 14.95 when paid quarterly just about anywhere in the country. There is no add bar and is a direct connection to the internet.
On Feb 28th, 2003 we have added another network to our offerings and have unlimited but not dedicated dialup access. For the last two years our service has been limited to 150 or 200 hrs per account. We also are now offering filtered internet. We are nationally available.
Our Terms of Service . We want to keep providing service. We are offering 56k v.90 access.
Sign up and we can get you going right away.
So in conclusion to what is available in Moose Lake for internet.
